Quandoo is a Berlin-based Local Commerce venture, founded by Philipp Magin and Dr. Daniel P. Glasner who were Co-Founders of Citydeal and CEOs of Groupon in Central Europe. Since late 2012, Daniel and Philipp (together with their co-founders Ronny Lange, Sebastian Moser and Tim-Hendrik Meyer) have been building the underlying platform for a modular operating system for local businesses. The team is convinced that local commerce is the “next big thing” and one of the largest and most promising sub-markets in the wired world. Three years ago, when couponing models began emerging around the globe, small and medium-sized local businesses started using web-based and mobile services in order to attract new customers, build loyalty, and improve operations.
Founded in 2013, Quandoo offers the reservation of tables in more than 6.000 restaurants world wide, covering more than 13 countries.
Shortly after their Founder Talk in October 2013 they were able to raise an incredible 40m investment round and now they have been acquired for over 200m$ by the Japanese company Recruit Holdings according to an official press note:
"Recruit Holdings Co Ltd said today that it has agreed to buy German online restaurant reservation service provider Quandoo GmbH for 198.6 million euros ($219 million), the latest overseas acquisition for the Japanese staffing firm. Recruit, which already owns 7.09 percent of Quandoo, will acquire the rest of the company, it said in a statement."
