Granted: Life Science Business Development Program Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar

On the 3rd of July, Dr. Nils Schmid, deputy prime minister and finance minster of the county of Baden-Württemberg, handed over the notication of approval of the county for the Life Science Business Development Program Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar within the framework of the event „30 Jahre Technologiepark Heidelberg“. The finance ministry will fund the joint project of the Heidelberger Startup Partners and the Mannheimer Gründerverbund MAFINEX with around 150.000 € for 15 months provisionally“, Schmid explained while the handover. „I am very confident that we are laying the foundation for a real reference project for supporting Life Science ventures.“ The goal of the program is to equip hightech startups from the Life Science area with manageral and industry specific know-how and integrate them into existing networks.

Technologiepark managing director Dr. André Domin took the notification of approval in place of the Heidelberg Startup Partners of the MAFINEX Gründerverbund from the minister Dr. Nils Schmid.

„We're very happy that Manheim has received a further building block Baustein for supporting startups“, mayor for economics Michael Grötsch said. „Especially for MedTech business, which have a decidated place in our politico-economic strategy, is support with managerial and professional expertise very important for entrepreneurial success.“

„It's also very important for the success of Life Science startups to connect founders with experienced entrepreneurs and the industry“, Dr. André Domin complemented. „We consider this learning from 30 years of Technologiepark as an central aspect of value creation within our program.“

By now, 11 startups and young ventures have been chosen for the  Life Science Business Development Program. It will allow them to professionalize and accelerate their Life Science business. The founders, who mostly have scientific, engineering or medical background, will be able to expand their managerial knowledge in an intense coaching and training program. To do that they will absolve a business administration qualification program and receive intense mentoring from dedicated experts, for example from the MedTech Cluster or the Economic Development Agency Mannheim. Furthermore, the network of the Heidelberg Startup Partners allows to integrate the expertise of renowned scientific instutions like the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, the European Molecular Biology Lab and the medical facilities of the University of Heidelberg. Via the MCEI, the University of Mannheim brings in some business expertise and accompanies the development of business plans. After completing the program, the founders will receive the chance to pitch their business ideas in front of selected investors for some funding.

The Life Science Business Development Program Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar is being carried together by the MAFINEX Gründerverbund, the Mannheim Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MCEI) of the Universität Mannheim, the Heidelberg Startup Partners and the Technologiepark Heidelberg and funded by the country of Baden-Württemberg.
