Propably the best example that the German startup scene has brought forth some ventures of international relevance: as CB Insights notes, it is said to be worth somewhere between $4.5 and $5.7 billion. That makes it even more valuable than the highly renowned Y Combinator! In 2013 alone, Rocket Internet raised close to $2 billion for their startups from international investors.
