Funding from the city of Mannheim: Two ventures by Mannheim Alumni receive economic promotion

The city of Mannheim holds an investment fund containing 1.65 million Euros, which is being financed halfway by European Union capital (EFRE) and halfway by capital from the Baden-Württemberg county and the city of Mannheim. It is generally arousing great interest from the local startup scene. The holdings range from 50.000 to 200.000 Euros.

The startup contagt GmbH is developing a mobile app, which allows an easier navigation inside of buildings. It was founded in 2013 by postgraduates of the University of Mannheim (Chair of Entrepreneurship) and the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Mannheim and has already won several venture prizes like the MRN Innovation prize. Their system, which uses QR codes installed inside the building as well as NFC chips, has already been installed at the University of Mannheim, the Partnerport at Walldorf and  and the MAFINEX Technologiezentrum. Contagt itself has its office at the Altes Volksbad, Mannheim-Neckarstadt.


The Stilfaser Gmbh is disrupting the traitional fashion market with its sock brand "von Jungfeld". Von Jungfeld has the right socks for every occasion -suitable for leisure outfits as well as classical suits. Their products are shipped in design packaging and exclusively produced in Germany. The founders pay special attention to marketing and sales channels, where they follow unusal strategies like sponsoring the towels for the  Berlin fashion week or the socks for the world cup. According to the company, which by now has 16 employees, they are trying to open up the national as well as the European market.


Furthermore, three ventures from Mannheim alumni recently changed their ownership structure. The startups synchronite (collaborative web services) and movilitas (track & trace, mobility, MRS and SAP supply chain solutions for international customers) have been sold to American investors. The venture simfy (music streaming) has been bought by German investors.
