Mannheim/Berlin - Styx Urban Investments has just led the 240.000 EUR financing round of MATEO Estates GmbH, a Berlin based SaaS company in the real estate market. The startup enables landlords to build better and more sustainable relationships with their tenants through automated processes and communication. Styx is leading MATEO Estate’s first VC funding round, together with a Singapore-based business angel. Both Styx Urban Investments and Mateo are run by University of Mannheim alumni and were part of MCEI startup programs.
“We are happy to make our first investment in a company coming out of the University of Mannheim and took part in MCEIs startup programs. As a Mannheim based early stage investor and alumni of the University of Mannheim, we hope to back more startups led by Mannheim alumni in the future. We appreciate and greatly benefit from the programs and support efforts of the Mannheim Center for Entrepreneurship and the team of Prof. Woywode and will continue contributing to their startup formats”, states Florian Fischer, General Partner at Styx Urban Investment who graduated in economics back in 2016.
Sebastian Frederik Jacobsen, Co-Founder & CEO of MATEO Estates GmbH: “Fostering collaboration and strategic partnership always seemed to be most important when it comes to entrepreneurship - this is at least what I’ve learned in the various MCEI entrepreneurship lectures. After closing our first investment round together with our strategic partner Styx Urban Investment, I can confirm that it is not always just about the money, but most importantly about the right strategic investor fit, especially in the early days. Beyond that I am more than grateful to have had the opportunity to write my master thesis at the chair, which helped tremendously to shape the business model of MATEO and kickstart the company. The MCEI is the perfect ramp up platform for any student run startup at the University of Mannheim.”
Prof. Dr. Michael Woywode, Professor of Entrepreneurship at University of Mannheim: “I am very happy to see that our graduates increasingly start innovative businesses and seem to be well equipped regarding successful entrepreneurship. Over the years we have helped to create a huge number of startups at Mannheim University. Companies like Statista, Auto1.com, Weltsparen, Stocard, OPAL Analytics, ARERO, Instafreight, Amorelie, Homeday, Foodspring, Payback, Sovanta, Camelot Consulting, VR Magic, Treasury Intelligence Solutions, eshelter, Anyon, Contagt and many others have been founded or cofounded by former students of Mannheim University. They have created ten thousands of jobs, created disruptive innovations and play an important role in advancing our economy and society. I am very happy that Styx Urban Investments and MATEO Estates have come to know each other in our MCEI course formats. This is the kind of match making that we intend to create among our MCEI partners.”

About MATEO Estates GmbH
MATEO transforms the rental process into an entirely digital and automated experience. At its core MATEO ensures a delightful connection between landlord and tenant. By providing a saas solution, MATEO puts the landlord’s operational tasks on autopilot and frees up time for growth and innovation.
MATEO gives a competitive edge in the market through its higher degree of automation, ease of integration and extreme focus on the tenant-landlord-relationship. The solution automates processes ranging from property listings, to tenant communication and service requests. With so-called MATEO flows, best practices are put into place to shape the communication and resolve most of the inquiries automatically. Landlords get a 360 degree overview of all their tenants and rental agreements, which replaces paper based tenant documentation.
Tenants are able to engage with their landlord through a mobile interface and take advantage of additional services, including utilities or insurance contract management, and discounts in local shops.
