Topic 2nd event: "Overcoming the startup obstacle course to the first user"

Last December the Tübingen Foundation for Medical Innovations started a six-part online event series "How do new things get into medicine?" with more than 200 participants.

The current speech addresses the challenges of implementing new ideas in the health sector and is intended as a starting point for discussions about improving opportunities for founders in health.

In addition, individual consulting sessions with branch / industry experts for specific questions regarding the 4Cs (commercialization: planning sales in the health sector, among other things, reimbursement of costs by health insurance companies, certification: approving product and company, clinical studies: proving evidence of the product, copyright: using property rights strategically) are offered in separate break-out rooms.

The EHI Foundation is looking for young scientists, university chairs and startups with excellent scientific work and projects that are relevant for commerce and the consumer goods industry. A connection to the sector can for example be given by a startups activity in logistics, IT/technology, marketing, customer services, energy, or innovative product development. The four categories in which the price money of altogether 85.000 Euro will be awarded are best startup, best university chair project, best PhD thesis, best master thesis. The EHI foundation cooperates with Douglas, REWE, Fressnapf, Henkel, Ferrero and DM.

You are thinking about getting self–employed or to set up your own venture? Then you are right in the startup consulting of Hochschule Mannheim. Each week there is a discussion with experts about topics like brand–building, economic or judicial basics for start ups. Additionally, there are founders who share their entrepreneurial spirit and experience.

In the upcoming week there will be the final session for this year about founding with a science background from Dr. Matthias Stahl from Higsch Data Visualization.

Why startups in the healthcare industry have a particularly difficult time? The event series "How does the new thing come into medicine?" adresses all those interested in innovation and start-ups, as well as startups in the health sector. The start of the free online event series is 03 December 2020 (4 pm-7pm).

Beside speeches by Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (Minister of Economic Affairs BaWü), Dr. Ingmar Hoerr (founder of CureVac AG) and Prof. Ralf Kindervater (BIOPRO managing director) also individual consulting sessions with branch / industry experts for specific questions are offered regarding topics like market access in the healthcare sector, approval of medical products, clinical studies, proprietary rights in separate .

The City of Mannheim and the City of Hebron are working successfully togehter with their project cooperation "Hebron-Mannheim Co-Working Lab (HEMA)", aiming to promote startups and businesses in Hebron and to pave the way for knowledge transfer.

Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Mannheim, Hebron, Next Mannheim and the Hebron Business Incubator will now be holding the first Digital Summit on Tuesday 24th November.

There will be inspiring keynote speeches and award ceremonies: Osama Al Saadawi, Palestinian Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Empowerment, will start to present HEMA project. “Hebron-Mannheim Co-Working Lab”. Following will be Mannheims mayor Peter Kurz and contextualise the cooperation through pointing out its reference points with the UN 2030 agenda. The highlight of the conference will be the award ceremony for the HEMAHack2020, a hackathon in which students and recent graduates from three Universities in Hebron present their innovative digital business ideas to a jury.

The event will take place from 10 am to 12 am CET and be all online.
